Conservative activist and Trump ally Charlie Kirk was assassinated on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, while speaking at Utah Valley University. The 31-year-old co-founder of Turning Point USA was killed by a single gunshot to the neck during an outdoor debate event. The shooter remains at large despite an ongoing manhunt.
Charlie Kirk was shot at about 12:10 PM local time during his American Comeback Tour.
Videos of the event show Kirk collapsing from his chair before being rushed to the hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox described the killing as a “political assassination.”
The FBI is leading the investigation with local police. Two people were briefly detained but later released. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed:
“The subject in custody has been released after an interrogation by law enforcement.”
Police continue searching buildings and neighborhoods. As of Thursday evening, no one has been arrested, and no motive is known.

Only days before the attack, Kirk sparked backlash with remarks on immigration:
“America does not need more visas for people from India… Enough already. We’re full.”
