In a significant infrastructure boost for the National Capital Region (NCR), Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated two major highway projects—the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). The combined cost of these projects is nearly ₹11,000 crore, and they are designed to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across Delhi and its surrounding areas.
At the inauguration event in Rohini, PM Modi stated, "When the world sees and evaluates India, its first glance falls on our capital, Delhi. Therefore, we have to make Delhi such a model of development". He emphasized that these projects will make commuting easier for residents of Delhi-NCR, saving time and benefiting traders, entrepreneurs, and farmers.
Project Highlights:
- Dwarka Expressway (Delhi Section): The 10.1 km-long Delhi section was built at a cost of approximately ₹5,360 crore. It will provide crucial multi-modal connectivity to Yashobhoomi, the Delhi Metro's Blue and Orange lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka cluster bus depot. The 19 km Haryana section of the expressway was inaugurated by the Prime Minister in March 2024.
- Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II): The Prime Minister also opened the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch of UER-II, developed at a cost of around ₹5,580 crore. This 76 km expressway is envisioned as Delhi's third Ring Road and will help ease traffic on the existing Inner and Outer Ring Roads and at major choke points like Mukarba Chowk and Dhaula Kuan. New links from UER-II will provide direct access to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, enhancing industrial connectivity.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini were also present at the event. Before the inauguration, PM Modi reviewed the UER-II project and interacted with the construction workers, acknowledging their contribution to the landmark infrastructure.
